Electron beam melting furnace: the electron beam melting furnace mainly uses the huge heat energy emitted by the electron beam as the heat source for smelting or alloy. It has the same function as vacuum induction furnace and vacuum arc furnace. Due to the high cost of smelting, it is only used for melting refractory metals, active metals or alloys. Most metals are smelted in other vacuum furnaces. In some special cases, such as high temperature and strict prevention of pollution, electron beam furnace is sometimes used to melt, refine and cast ingots, and the effect is very good.

The main difference between electron beam melting furnace and vacuum electric arc furnace is that the heat source comes from the arc between electrode and consumable electrode when melting metal or alloy in vacuum arc furnace. The heat of melting various materials in the electron beam melting furnace comes from the electron beam with high energy density emitted by the electron gun. Electron beam melting can avoid the pollution of electrode and keep the molten pool, so that it can be thoroughly purified, and the shape of melting material is not limited.

Generally, electron beam melting furnace consists of electron gun chamber and melting chamber. The electron gun chamber can be discharged by mechanical pump and diffusion pump to obtain the vacuum degree of 10-4 ~ 10-6 Torr. The smelting chamber can be composed of mechanical pump, booster pump and diffusion pump, or multi-stage Roots pump can be used for exhaust to obtain vacuum degree of 10-2 ~ 10-6 Torr.
