Water ring vacuum units can be divided into the following types:

Water-ring pump: The main function of water-ring pump in the unit is to create the pre-vacuum required by Roots pump. Generally speaking, the limit vacuum of single-stage water-ring pump is not high, but the pre-vacuum required by Roots pump produced in our country is relatively high. Therefore, in fact, we generally do not use single-stage water-ring pump as the pre-pump of Roots pump, but use double-stage water-ring pump with lower limit pressure. The limit pressure of a pump and a water ring pump is 400 Pa, which can meet the general vacuum demand, but its scope of use will be limited. If two Roots pumps are connected in series and then combined with the water ring pump, the limit pressure of the unit can be greatly increased (up to 25 Pa). Therefore, in this type, it is common to see two Roots pumps in series and then use two-stage pumps as the front pump to form a unit. If higher limit pressure is needed, three Roots pumps can be combined with water ring pumps, and the limit pressure can reach 1 Pa.

If the three-stage water ring unit still can not meet the limit pressure, we can use the water ring pump parallel mechanical vacuum pump. This unit is mainly used for vacuum pumping systems which need to deal with a large amount of water vapor and have a long time and very high vacuum limit, such as vacuum drying.

If a large amount of water vapor is required to be treated in the vacuum system, the use of water ring pumps is more appropriate, but because its limit vacuum is not high, resulting in the lower limit vacuum of the whole unit (this is only relative). Although mechanical vacuum pumps with higher vacuum limit are needed as front-stage pumps in vacuum pumping systems requiring higher vacuum.
