Causes of scale formation in vacuum pump

In the papermaking profession, the working medium of vacuum pump (i.e. make-up fluid) is to directly quote tap water or papermaking white water. Because the hardness of tap water is relatively high, the metal ion composition in white water is also relatively disordered. Therefore, the internal fluid components of vacuum pump work in this medium condition, through a long time of physical and chemical process, will form scale. 


After scaling, the pumping rate of vacuum pump will decrease. Figure 1 is the working condition diagram of vacuum pump internal flow passage parts after scaling. Because there is scale between the impeller blades and on the inlet and outlet windows, the volume of the sealing chamber is significantly reduced, and the volume of the inlet and outlet body is naturally reduced. When the scale almost fills the space between the blades or the air intake and exhaust windows are almost full of scale, the intake and exhaust volume is almost zero, and the vacuum pump loses the effect of vacuum pumping.

After scaling, the vacuum pump not only decreases the pumping rate, but also increases the power consumption. Because of the formation of scale, the exhaust window is reduced, and the contraction ratio of the gas in the chamber increases when the window is discharged, and then the power consumption increases, and the power consumption travels about 10%.
